What is your favorite quote? "To use the world well, to be able to stop wasting it and out time in it, we need to relearn our being in it." - Ursula Le Guin
What are your interests within infectious diseases? Virology (including HIV), mycology, MAC/NTM, tropical infections, prosthetic joint infections, and infection prevention.
What is the most important factor in a provider/patient relationship? Trust
What can a patient expect if they see you as a provider? An active listener engaged in a conversation of mutual respect and collaboration.
If you could spend the day with anyone in the world (dead or alive), who would it be? Nina Simone
What makes you different from other ID providers? I often explain my work as the "in-house detective". If we don't know what is going on, it is my job to listen, investigate, collaborate and problem solve. Infectious diseases diagnostics must take a holistic approach. It is about healing the whole person; all body systems, mind, and spirit. Often it is our connection to the community and evolving environmental risks that aid in understanding the whole illness. I am always eager to ask questions, notice the details, and support my patients in an always evolving ID climate. I value my relationships with my patients.
What would you do for a living if you weren't a healthcare provider? Soil microbiologist or Farmer
What is your favorite activity/hobby outside of work? I like to spend time with my partner Nick, my dog Cosmos, family, and friends. I like to spend time outdoors kayaking, surfing, hiking, meditating, practicing yoga, listening to music at home and live performances, and exploring all that the Lowcountry has to offer.
We just want to thank all of our patients, referring providers, and our community for bearing with us during this most difficult and unprecedented time in our infectious diseases' careers. Our providers and staff have been spread thin since COVID emerged, spending almost 100% of their time treating the severely ill in our community hospitals up and down the coast of South Carolina. We are doing our best to get back in the office as quickly as possible. Please help us get there quicker by getting vaccinated. Thank you for your patience.
